 The people behind phony-art

Once upon a time in the land of the frozen north their lived a young family.  Mrs. Phony-Art was a student who, like many students was not really sure what she wanted to study, and Mr. Phony-Art was a doting and devoted husband who tolerated her many changes of heart.

One day, Mrs. Phony-Art, a long time dabbler in various art forms was home with the flu.  A visiting phone repair man had left a few feet of unused wire in her front hall and she, being the good procrastinating student that she was, picked it up and started to fiddle with it.

When her husband came home from work he found the apartment littered with bits of phone wire and a table full of miniature wire creations.   As Mr. Phony-art worked for a phone company it was never any trouble to find scrap phone wire to feed his wife's new creative habit.  He was thrilled for her to have found a nice, free hobby to keep her busy during the long winter months.

Months later a guest to the home asked where he had gotten the sculptures as they would be an interesting and unique gift for a computer-oriented friend of theirs, and thus Mrs. Phony-Art began her first production run.   She was shocked to discover that there was a market for this sort of thing!  Sales happened on a semi regular basis, mostly to repeat customers who needed a one-of-a-kind gift.

A journalist caught wind of a tempting story about a home based artist and wrote it up in a daily paper in Toronto, and that was when Phony-art.com was born out of a happy accident.  An old friend who happened to be in site-building happened to see the article and looked up the website.  Knowing he could make it look a lot better, he offered to do so.  And thus came about the current www.Phony-Art.com.
